4 Committees

Three Technical Committees are presently operational - Electricity, Hydrocarbons, Renewable Energy - and one Strategy Committee.

Since its creation, OME has carried out regional studies on every energy topics; as well as transverse issues.

Committees

The Electricity Committee is a gathering platform and a regional sector-based think tank open to all members and partners of OME with the purpose to create dialogue and promote a reliable, adequate, and affordable electricity supply in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Through strong collaboration within OME member companies and partners, the Electricity Committee represents a meeting point where exchanging information to foster cooperation by connecting experiences. In this regard, the Electricity Committee contributes to feed the debate on specific topics as:
- cross-border interconnection projects in the Mediterranean area,
- renewables deployment and integration into the grid;
- efficiency of power systems;
- institutional and regulatory framework;
- future investment needs and;
- sector-based development policies.

The Committee activities, among others, lie in organizing training workshops, international conference and thematic seminars, proposing common internal studies, collecting and sharing data, and launching specific tasks-force to create the conditions for building a more integrated Euro-Mediterranean electricity sector. OME experts work closely with their counterparts within the energy industry and institutions.

The Hydrocarbons Committee’s main objective is to analyse the pressing issues and investigate emerging challenges in the oil & gas sector in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Publications and reports produced by the Hydrocarbons Division in collaboration with the Committee members address key issues of the oil and gas industry.

They are of reference for decision makers, analysts, researchers and investors who wish to have a complete overview and understanding of the Mediterranean oil and gas industry and market both at a regional and individual country levels. Among others, the studies carried by the committee offer deep insights into the issues under the following main topics:
- Past trends and possible future evolutions of fossil fuels from exploration and production to consumption;
- Hydrocarbons transportation infrastructure;
- Future investment needs in the sector;
- Institutional and regulatory framework.

OME experts work closely with their counterparts within the energy industry and institutions, provide consultant services and undertake joint studies on specific topics of common interest.

The OME Renewable Energy Committee (REC) performs technology, market and policy analysis on a wide spectrum of renewable and sustainable energy solutions, as well as on the integration of renewables in the energy systems. This unique exchange platform gathers together OME full member delegates, associate partners and external experts with the aim to advance current state-of-the-art and propose innovative solutions for accelerating the deployment of renewable energy technologies in the Mediterranean region.

The RE Committee also seeks to increase cooperation among OME member companies on renewable energy studies, as well as to enhance collaboration between OME members and external stakeholders. Its programme of work is articulated around five main thematic priorities:
1. Renewable energy in the energy systems;
2. Enabling policies and measures;
3. Investment and finance;
4. Technical and economic evaluation of technologies;
5. Support to members, knowledge management, outreach and networking.

Furthermore, the RE Committee gives advice and guidance to the work of the Renewable Energy Division, which serves as the Committee Secretariat. The RE Committee is directed by a Chair (currently, Enel Green Power) and two Vice-Chairs (currently EdF and STEG).

The OME Strategy Committee is working under the guidance and in support of the Executive Committee. Its role is to prepare and propose positions and actions, to conduct transverse studies and to coordinate events and participation to events on transverse issues relevant to the energy industry in the Mediterranean.

The Strategy Committee is exclusively composed of experts from member companies and the Chairs of the Technical Committees.
