L'OME est le pionnier dans l'organisation de conférences et ateliers de réflexions de haut niveau sur les différentes questions liées au secteur énergétique dans les pays du bassin méditerranéen. Il a ainsi organisé les premières conférences sur le gaz naturel (en 1988), sur l'électricité (en 1989), sur le financement de projets énergétiques (en 1989) et sur l'énergie et l'environnement urbain (en 1993).
Les séminaires et conférences organisées par l'OME ont toujours réunis des responsables de haut niveau des compagnies énergétiques méditerranéennes, des décideurs, des institutions financières ainsi que des experts du domaine énergétique.
La participation de hauts responsables de la Commission Européenne ainsi que d'autres organisations internationales (Banque européenne d'investissement, Banque Mondiale, Agence Internationale de l'Energie, etc.) à ces conférences a toujours permis de mieux cerner les enjeux internationaux liés au développement du secteur énergétique dans le bassin méditerranéen et de contribuer à la réalisation de projets dans la région.

Regional workshop on solar thermal in Beirut: 18 – 19 April 2012
More than fifty experts from ten different countries around the Mediterranean have met in Beirut on 18-19 April at the occasion of the "Regional workshop for the Transformation and Strengthening of the Solar Water Heating Market in the Mediterranean region". The event was organised under the auspices of the Ministry for Energy and Water. His Excellency, Minister Gebran Bassil opened the works by giving a welcoming speech on the first day.
The objective of this workshop was to share knowledge amongst key experts from both the public and private sectors regarding their experience with the adoption and diffusion of the solar thermal technology, and to discuss relevant aspects related to policy and regulation, industry and market applications.
This event is part of the "Global Solar Water Heating Market Transformation and Strengthening Initiative", financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and co-executed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). OME is the regional partner of the initiative.
