Hydrocarbons and Energy Security Committee meeting
On 10 May 2021, the OME organised a Hydrocarbons and Energy Security Committee meeting through video conference. Sohbet Karbuz, Director of the Hydrocarbons and Energy Security Division, presented a summary of the UfM Gas Platform (current) activities. Despite some delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, several tasks of the programme of work are either already completed or are progressing on schedule. The next report to be circulated soon will be on reduction of carbon intensity in the transportation sector in the Mediterranean urban areas. Forthcoming OME’s flagship publication Mediterranean Energy Perspective to 2050 is now at a final stage. This 2021 edition includes for the first time forecasts up to 2050. It also includes Mauritania (which is a UfM Member State) and a new alternative demand scenario, a “Near Zero Carbon 2050” scenario developed under the framework of the UfM Energy Platforms for the EC.
